With book, music & lyrics by Aaron Morrill, Facings is a sharp, funny and heartfelt musical about Emma Rose, a determined young Asian-American entrepreneur fighting to introduce her artisanal kefir brand, Bubby’s, into the upscale grocery chain Rolling Fields. As she battles corporate gatekeeping, sabotage from a rival and the sleazy advances of a corrupt store manager, Emma finds an unexpected connection with Javier, a hardworking Colombian journalist seeking asylum in the U.S. who stocks shelves at Rolling Fields to make ends meet. Torn between her mother’s pressure to date a wealthy banker and her growing feelings for Javier, Emma must confront issues of class, identity, ambition and justice. Through workplace satire, a cross-cultural love story and big musical numbers ranging from rock and roll to salsa, Facings is an uplifting celebration of community and the belief that building something meaningful, whether a business or a relationship, takes heart, resilience and people who choose to stand together.

 

After several readings, concerts and an immersive production by Out of the Box Theatrics and New York Theatre Barn in 2019, Facings had a successful run Off-Broadway at UrbanStages in Spring 2025 where it was nominated for 13 Broadway World Off-Broadway Awards.​
